When dating, people often focus on finding the perfect match. Dating is often compared to a game because everyone is trying to figure out what the other expects from the relationship. It is important that you spend time getting to know yourself, if you want to get past the dating games into a relationship based on mutual respect and honesty, focus on being the type of person that someone else would like to date.
Have you heard of dressing for success in business? the same principle applies to dating success. At first, physical appearance is what attracts one person to another and although it should not be the base for a dating relationship, it’s important. We can try to keep physically fit, and find clothing that suits our personality as well as our physique.
What about your personality? What do your family and friends say about your personality? Is it attractive? When dating, after the initial physical attraction tones down, the way you behave and interact with others will be the thing that keeps a potential partner interested. Now is the time to work on getting rid of any negative personality traits. You can’t change the personality of a dating partner, but you can change yourself. This is also important: If you have heard that “opposites attract” this may be true, but it is not usually a good basis for a long term relationship. The more you are like a partner; the more likely the relationship will last.
Another suggestion is to concentrate on others. When you feel happy with yourself, it’s more likely for you to be happy, satisfied and attractive to others. Not only you will learn more about yourself when you help and serve others, whether you are in a relationship with them or not, but you will become a better and more grounded person. You will also find that the people you meet as you help and serve will often share the same values and ideals that you do increasing your possibilities.
